Geometic Public Bench

This bench is an geometric modern concrete bench. It accommodates many different ways of sitting/reclining/laying (show in the image through silhouette). The bench when combined with concrete pathing acts like an explosion of the earth, combined with street artwork (coming soon) to give a look as if the art is coming from within the earth, pushing the earth up and creating a place to relax. The artwork will spill onto the street, a balance between an art installation and a functional space for the public.

Cafe and information center (revisited)

Exterior and decking area
This project I set myself was firstly a project to examine different uses of natural light. Which has now grown into a full project. The structure is influenced from rolls of turf, or sod as it is also know. This project set in the lake district creates a small center for ramblers or visitors to the area to relax, meet and set off on expeditions from. The structure itself is green roofed to insulate the cafe, and constructed from concrete for greater stability which is also very effective against weathering, specially within wind driven rain the structure has to withstand and a moist environment like the Lake District. More to come through the week!

update! sketch image, interior coming soon.

Promotional Image created for Florence project

Promotional poster for The Florence institute in Liverpool, for a brief I completed found within this blog. The aim of this artwork was to show the derelict decaying image of the site, interlaced with imagery from my proposal, to convey a new leash of life into the site with glimpses of what the interior will look like on the exterior facade. The image portrays a sense of traditional and modern architecture counteracting each other, much like the design for the interior.

Images from Digital Webform design

Examples of presentation for Graduate Exhibition 2012

Below are image of my proposal for Digital Webform brief, the report and brief of which can be found within this blog, please read through to see how I handled and completed the brief

Above is the title page of the presentation, which was A1 sized, due to blogger only allowing a certain size of image it has been reduced in quality and size. These where mounted and presented along with the whole of my years work in the Graduate Exhibition 2012.
Above, is an image from within Digital Webform located on the 3rd floor relaxation area. On the left is an example of the layout of the building, these axonometric plan drawings are layered with life-like axonometric renderings to highlight certain important areas of the plans
Note; these are examples from my portfollio, therefore samples of larger projects

Digital Webform Report

Here is my proposal for the finished design for Digital Webform. The idea came from each section of a workforce as important as another, each a building block of the company. The concept began while playing a game of jenga with a nephew, and how he would tentatively move some blocks away. In the studio I began manipulating a jenga tower, each block reliant on another I then realized how these spaces can be controlled and created. This is a continued theme throughout the interior and exterior, manipulability and transforming areas to cater all different tasks. Here is the complete report of the project.  Just click next page and have a little read, Thanks!

This report is highly watermarked, if you would like a un-watermarked version please ask and I will provide a clean version. Thank you

Ornate sustainable design structures (cont)

This is a design concept for a PV panel installation as part of a larger project on sustainability which can be found within this blog. These trees are connected to the street grid to allow for larger amounts of energy to be collected. I will later come back and fulfil this concept as I thought these pieces could become quite ornate pieces of art within the gardens

Florence Music Institute

A project based upon a derelict grade 2 listed building within Liverpool, The Florence institute, located in the Dingle district. The project was to find a new purpose for the building, while keeping to grade 2 regulations. This project was one of 3 final year project in which i received a 90% mark. The brief indicated one large room to be created within the building, I chose to design the whole building to accommodate my design a music hub for the community. Since this project was completed The Florence building has now been redeveloped. Below is an example of a design page from my portfolio explaining how one room can change function:

Sustainable Research Proposal

This research project was research into tackling the growing concern in sustainability within design, and how this can be implemented, I undertook this as a design proposal for an area of within Liverpool, England, and how changed to the community can benefit the areas sustainability through use of techniques influenced by co-housing and different housing projects in the UK.

This report is highly watermarked, if you would like a unwatermarked version please ask and I will provide a clean version. Thank you Joshua Kinsella Research Project 6016ID Watermarked 2

Monocoque cafe and informatiom centre

A brief image of a project I am currently working on and set myself today. An information, cafe restaurant for countryside use, it is a monocoque structure allowing light to pass through. The image above shows the coffee shop area. This small project was to help me test out different techniques of using natural light.

Images of the full structure soon

All work by me.

Photoshop Editing

Photoshop or image editing is such a fantastic and vital part to capturing what some programs like archiCAD or autoCAD sometimes failing to capture a promotional image. The above image is the original screen I used for editing, quite a bare look at the model before it was initially finished for the purpose of this tutorial, that will be updated into this blog soon. Night time images are not generally used for design proposals, I wanted to challenge this and see how certain type of dramatic layering or adding rain effects can sell an proposal.

Below is the finished image after editing, I will produce the steps soon on how to create an atmospheric image like this soon. This image is just a brief look at the steps that can be used, with a bit longer time taken to edit the image am sure an eye catching image would be created.

Digital Webform - Origins and Concept

Some early research and prototypes for Digital Webform brief. Report found here

http://joshkinnydesign.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/digital-webform-final.html

Desk Concept
Sketch below of how I wanted the effect of the storage walls to look like, giving texture and a sense of manipulability to them

The below Image was trying out different techniques to see how plans could be presented. This did not work, though eye catching, white on black just doesn't give the detail needed to show axonometric plans, I tried many techniques finally finding a balance between information and artistic flare to show areas of interest in each floor, found in my final presentation.

Above are early renders of the interiors to get a feel for what the final interior of the 3rd and 4th floor may look like.
